That won't work.
People will then make variations like this:
WTB FIERY DRAGON SWORD
WTB FIERY DRAGON SWORD1
2WTB FIERY DRAGON SWORD
Or they'll just have two phrases like this:
"WTB FIERY DR" then "AGON SWORD"
Paste one, insert a random character in the middle, paste the other.
Tons of ways to defeat filters like that.
Personally I want some incentives to stop people from spamming such messages (currently liking the WoW Auction House). Such an incentive would definitely cut down on trade spam.

In lineage there is something similar to this in that it disables chat if you spam too often but it doesnt have to be the exact same line. It goes by the number of lines or characters that you enter within a certain time frame I believe. Something like that could help here a lot too.

Couldn't agree more, don't understand why people spam like that, once every 30 seconds should do people!
One idea would be to limit /trade messages to once everyone 10 or 20 seconds...
Also make the spam checker much better like the once in Lineage.

Really, I think halting on exact lines is all that is necessary, at least exact lines in recent memory and really close, so that someone can post down quite a few lines of sells (there is alot of item information for such a small amount of text to be written) and not be punished. But, the only people really spamming seem to be those who do literally spam WTB Dragon Sword again and again, and even with slight variations a decent system could pick up on it, but few even make those, so I think that taking entire pieces of the last line and matching it against the current will do, since I'm doubtful anyone would really go WTB Dragon Sword, then add 1 and so on to it,b ut even if they did it would be stopped.

Don't see the issue with making a new thread... shows us "Popular" the issue is based on the number of threads relating to it. Its not like its being overtalked about now is it.
Backon topic... Death to the spammers.

So what happens if someone posts a "WTS" in the trade chat, but it gets bumped off the chat history so fast because there's heavy regular chat going on? I don't sell often, but when i do sell, i wanna make sure people see what i have to offer.
BTW, i am all for a filter of some sort. maybe limiting certain terms and text to the trade channel, like "WTS", "sell", "buy", etc. Yeah, people would have to rethink their chat terminology, but it would cut down on the spamming shorthand at least a little.

theres nothing wrong with reposting it every so often; whats being complained about is those morons who have to constantly press "up enter up enter up enter" to prevent anything but their stupid message being seen. I'd love to see this spam eradicated; if not then at least let me attack the morons who did it with total immunity.
*me one hit kills sir spam-a-lot*

Agreed. However, so does the huge amount of posts in one single thread, instead of having seven threads with five posts, you could have one thread with thirtyfive posts. The real issue is keeping the boards what I suppose we could call "litter free"

This is where disabling the normal chat while you are trying to trade comes in handy. I know that not everyone will have normal chat disabled, but those who are trying to trade, may indeed have it turned off.
